Kwanza Hall
Atlanta City Council
Councilmember
Atlanta, GA
The Honorable Kwanza Hall is beginning his third term on the Atlanta City Council. He represents the heart of Atlanta and the city’s most diverse council district, including Midtown, the home of The Social Shake-Up 2014. The son of civil rights activists, one of Hall's signature achievements during his first term was a community-based planning process to ensure long-term sustainability and affordability in Atlanta’s historic Old Fourth Ward, the neighborhood that raised Martin Luther King, Jr. During his second term, Hall launched “The Year of Boulevard,” a multi-year initiative to bring resources and opportunity to the children and families of Dr. King’s neighborhood, which has the highest concentration of poverty in the southeastern United States. In January 2013, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation recognized “The Year of Boulevard” as one of ten best-in-class community revitalization efforts in the U .S. led by an elected municipal official. Hall has been recognized for leadership in many different arenas: arts and culture, greenspace, historic preservation, and support for Atlanta’s international community. Before his election to the Atlanta City Council, Hall served on the Atlanta Board of Education. Hall, a private business developer, lives in the King Historic District with his wife and two sons.
